The new generation Honda City will go on sale in early 2020.

Honda had launched the new Civic sedan in the Indian market earlier this year. The company is now working on a range of new cars for our market. In the next 12 months, Honda will launch 2 all-new cars in the Indian market. This year, the Japanese automaker will launch the long-awaited HR-V 5-seater premium SUV in India. Coming early next year, the new-generation Honda City will go on sale in our market.

It was speculated that Honda will bring the next-gen HR-V SUV in India. In fact, the SUV was expected to be locally developed. However, the company has opted for the current model which will arrive as a CKD unit. The Honda HR-V will be positioned against the likes of Jeep Compass and the MG Hector. It is likely to be priced around Rs 15 lakh for the base model and Rs 20 lakh for the top-spec model.

Honda has already displayed the SUV to its dealerships in Delhi-NCR. In fact, testing of the car has already been started on Indian roads. It will share the engine specifications with the Civic sedan. While the petrol version will get the 139bhp, 1.8-litre i-VTEC petrol engine, the oil burner is likely to be a 118bhp, 1.6-litre i-DTEC unit. Transmission options are likely to include a 6-speed manual and a CVT automatic unit.

The fifth generation Honda City will first make its debut in Thailand in October this year. The sedan will make India debut at the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo, while launch could take place in March. The new Civic sedan will be longer and wider than the current model. In fact, the wheelbase will be increased for better legroom space for rear occupants.
