Japanese automaker, Honda is working on 3 all-new SUVs including the next-gen HR-V, which is scheduled to be launched in 2021. The company is also developing an all-new sub-4 meter SUV, which will rival the likes of the Toyota Raize and the Suzuki Jimny. The sub-4 meter SUV is rumoured to be unveiled in the end of 2020, while launch is expected in 2021.

The company is also developing an all-new mid-sized SUV, which will be positioned between the sub-4 meter SUV and the next-gen HR-V. Media reports suggest that the next-gen Honda HR-V will be bigger, and is likely to be closer to 4.5 meters in length. This will give enough space to Honda for an all-new mid-sized SUV, which will serve as an affordable global mid-sized SUV.

Honda Compact SUV

The upcoming mid-sized SUV will directly rival the likes of the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta and Nissan Kicks in global markets. These SUVs are gaining good popularity among buyers of developing nations including Russia, South America, Indonesia and others. The SUV is expected to be designed and developed specifically for the developing markets including India.

The upcoming Honda mid-sized SUV will be developed on the new-generation City’s platform. This platform is also reported to be used to develop the new sub-4 meter SUV. Honda is locally developing the new City in India, so localisation won’t be an issue. We believe that Honda could bring both the SUVs in the Indian market; however, Honda is yet to make an official announcement.

The new SUVs are expected to be powered by 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 120bhp and 200Nm of torque. Both manual and automatic versions are likely to be on offer. The SUVs could also receive the 1.5-litre i-VTEC 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine that is good for 119bhp and 145Nm of torque.
