Honda Cars India that unveiled the Mobilio MPV at the 2014 Delhi Motor Show is planning to launch the vehicle in the Indian car market in a next couple of months. If media reports to believe, the much-anticipated Mobilio MPV will be launched in July this year. The company has already started trial production of the MPV at its Greater Noida manufacturing unit.
Honda’s Brio platform is a very versatile platform, which already underpins two cars- Brio hatchback and the Amaze compact sedan. The Mobilio MPV is the third car to be built on the Brio’s platform. The vehicle will source its interior component and styling from its smaller siblings, which means competitive pricing.
The new Honda Mobilio will be offered in both petrol and diesel guise. While the petrol version is likely to get the 1.5-litre i-VTEC engine that produces 116bhp, the oil burner will be propelled by the 1.5-litre i-DTEC engine producing 99bhp. Media reports also suggest that the vehicle might also feature the 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol engine; however, the chances are very minimal. Both the engines will be coupled to a five-speed manual transmission gearbox, while the petrol version might also get the 5-speed auto gearbox.
The Honda Mobilio will compete against the likes of Maruti Ertiga, Chevrolet Enjoy and the upcoming Datsun Go+ MPV. It is expected to be priced little higher than its contemporaries, while the top spec model will compete against the likes of Mahindra Xylo and Toyota Innova.
