Honda Car India entered into the growing compact MPV segment by introducing the highly anticipated Mobilio MPV. The Honda Mobilio is competing against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Chevrolet Enjoy and Toyota Innova. This 7-seater model has received an overwhelming response from car buyers across the nation, and it already registered over 14,000 bookings since its launch. Interestingly, over 85 per cent of bookings come from the Mobilio’s diesel variant and petrol mode accounts for less than 15 per cent. Honda expected around 70 per cent of diesel share in the total sales, but the market surprised the manufacturer as the demand for diesel is quite high than the expected one. The simple reason being the high demand for diesel Mobilio is its fuel efficiency. With an ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 24.2kmpl, the compact MPV is the country’s most fuel efficient car in its segment.
The company delivered 3,365 units in the first month; however, it is expected that the number will further increase in near future. To fulfill the demand, the company has shifted Honda City’s production to the Tapukara manufacturing unit in Rajasthan from the Greater Noida. The Mobilio MPV is powered by a 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel and 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine.
Adding to it, the deliveries for the Honda Mobilio RS, sporty variant, will commence in the country next month. The production of this model is yet to commence; however, the bookings are open.
