Honda HR-V to share petrol and diesel engines with Civic sedan

2019 Honda HRV Sport Engine

The new Honda HR-V is expected to be priced around Rs 15 lakh

We informed you earlier that Honda is planning to launch the new HR-V SUV in the Indian market. A new media report claims that the new Honda HR-V will be launched around the Diwali festival season. We reported earlier that Honda has displayed the new HR-V SUV to its dealerships. In fact, the company has already selected the local vendors for the development of new SUV.

The new Honda HR-V will be positioned between the BR-V and the CR-V SUV. The company will import the SUV via the CKD route and assemble the vehicle in the country. With limited localisation, the HR-V is expected to cost slightly on higher side. Honda is aiming to position the new SUV as a premium model. The new Honda HR-V is likely to be priced around Rs 15 lakh. It will directly rival the likes of the Jeep Compass, Tata Harrier, Hyundai Creta and the upcoming MG Hector.

It was speculated that the upcoming HR-V will be powered by a 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine that also powers the City sedan. However, the new media report claims that the SUV will share the engine specs with the new Honda Civic sedan. The petrol version of the HR-V will be powered by a 1.8-litre i-VTEC engine that is capable of producing 139bhp of power and 174Nm of torque. The diesel version will source its power from the locally assembled 1.6-litre i-DTEC unit that powers the Civic and the CR-V. This powertrain churns out 118bhp of power and 300Nm of torque. The gasoline unit will also come with a CVT automatic gearbox, while the 6-speed manual gearbox will be offered as standard.

The current-gen Honda HR-V was first introduced in 2013 as the Vezel SUV. Honda had introduced the mid-life facelift of the SUV in 2015. It is expected that Honda will introduce the slightly updated version of the HR-V in India. It will come with differently styled front fascia, which will be similar to the CR-V. The SUV will have all LED lighting, roof-integrated spoiler, 17-inch machine-cut alloys, large touchscreen infotainment system, sunroof and several high-end features.
