Honda HR-V SUV spotted for the first time in India

Honda HR-V SUV is expected to be launched in the second half of 2019

We informed you earlier that Honda will launch the long-awaited HR-V SUV in the Indian market towards the end of this year. The company has started testing the SUV on Indian roads. In fact, a camouflaged test mule of the upcoming Honda HR-V SUV has been spotted in India. Previous media reports claim that the Honda HR-V was displayed to dealers in Delhi.

Instead of local development, Honda will introduce the new SUV as a CKD model. The SUV is expected to be imported from the Thailand as a CKD kit, which will be assembled at the company’s Greater Noida based plant. It will be positioned against the likes of Jeep Compass and MG Hector. Going by the spy image, it is visible that the SUV has wraparound tail-lamps, a roof integrated spoiler with an integrated high-mounted stop lamp and a shark-fin antenna. At the back, the HR-V SUV gets a pair of reflectors and a single exhaust tip.

The Honda HR-V SUV gets a sloping roofline to form a coupe-like profile. The door handles for the rear doors are positioned on the C-Pillar, while the flared wheel arches give it a strong profile. The spotted model was equipped with a 5-spoke alloy wheels.

The new Honda HR-V will be positioned right between the BR-V and the CR-V, and is likely to cost around Rs 15 lakh – Rs 20 lakh. It was speculated to be available with a 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol and a 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel engine. However, the SUV will arrive with a 1.8-litre i-VTEC engine that also powers the Civic. This engine is capable of producing 139bhp of power and is paired to a CVT automatic unit. The company is yet to confirm on the diesel version, but it is most likely to use the 1.6-litre i-DTEC engine that produces 118bhp and 300Nm of torque. The diesel model will get the six-speed manual gearbox.
