The Honda HR-V is based on the City platform, so localisation won’t be a big issue for the brand.

We informed you earlier that Honda has displayed the new HR-V SUV to dealers in India. It was reported that the SUV could be launched in our market by the end of this year. A new media report claims that the Honda HR-V will replace the Mobilio-based BR-V 7-seater SUV in India. The Honda BR-V was launched in India in 2016 and is based on the first-gen Amaze platform. While the Mobilio has already been phased out from our market, the BR-V is the only model based on the older platform.

Adding to it, the Honda BR-V is not doing very good for the Japanese maker in terms of sales. The company is doing less than 500 monthly sales for the BR-V SUV. This 7-seater SUV failed to create any impact in the fast growing SUV segment. MPV-like exterior design and poor interior quality are the main reason behind its failure in the market. The Honda HR-V could receive positive response for the automaker, as it has more SUV-ish profile and premium interior. Adding to it, the SUV is longer than the Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster.

The Honda HR-V is based on the City platform, so localisation won’t be a big issue for the brand. Previous media report claims that Honda is already in talks with vendors for the HR-V SUV. It is expected that the Honda HR-V will be equipped with BSVI compliant petrol and diesel engines. The vehicle could get the 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine producing 118bhp and 145Nm. The oil burner is likely to the BSVI compliant 1.6-litre i-DTEC unit that is good for 118bhp and 300Nm of torque. Also See – Next-gen Honda City launch and other details

The Honda HR-V is one of the most successful Honda nameplates in recent times in global markets. The SUV is also known as Vezel in some markets. First introduced in 2013 as Vezel, the SUV is expected to enter into new generation in the end of this year. It would be interesting to see whether Honda will bring the existing model or the next-gen model in India. Honda could introduce the existing model as CKD unit to gauge customer response. If the response will be positive, Honda might develop the next-generation HR-V in India.
