Honda HR-V Discontinued In UK; New Model Coming Soon

Japanese automaker, Honda will introduce the new-generation HR-V in March 2021. However, the vehicle will go on sale by May 2021 in Japan and by the end this year in UK. While the new model will take 6-7 months, Honda has pulled the plug on the existing HR-V in the United Kingdom.

The Honda HR-V has been removed from the official website. The brand’s current line-up for the UK comprises of the Jazz, CR-V, Civic, MSX and Honda e. The production of the HR-V for the European markets was suspended at the end of December, as the vehicle failed to meet new emission norms that came into effect on January 1, 2021.

The new-gen Honda HR-V has been caught testing several times in Japan. The SUV has recently been caught testing in Europe. The spy images reveal that the HR-V for Japan will have different design elements as compared to the European model. The spy shots reveal that the new generation Honda HR-V comes with all-new styling, featuring all-new front fascia inspired by the next-gen Civic prototype. The second generation HR-V has wider grille, flatter headlamps with LED DRLs, all-new front bumper with a mesh intake and LED fog lamps.

The new-gen Honda HR-V will have less aggressive lines and creases. The spotted model has flatter beltline, familiar rear door handles and ORVMs with integrated blinkers. The SUV gets sloping roofline, roof integrated spoiler, rakish rear window and an angular C-pillar. The SUV has flatter body, featuring flush bumper and LED tail-lights that are slimmer than before.

The new-gen Honda HR-V is likely to be based on the new Honda Architecture; however, few reports suggest that the SUV could use the updated version of the existing platform. The 2021 Honda HR-V is expected to feature a strong hybrid powertrain, which is called e:HEV. This powertrain uses a  1.5-lirtre petrol engine and two electric motors. This is the same hybrid unit that powers the new-gen Fit and the City sedan. The hatchback achieves up to 80kmph with the use of the electric motor. For greater power, the petrol engine starts to work to transmit the rotation to the second electric motor, which is called the generation engine.
