In fact, Activa is the largest selling two-wheeler with a lead of 1.97 lakh units against Hero Splendor. While Activa continues its winning spree, the company has rolled out a new model, dubbed ‘Honda Cliq’ that is aimed squarely at the rural market. Aimed at the rural markets, the new Cliq carries an affordable price tag. The scooter is currently available in select markets, while the company plans launching it across India in phased manner. Honda’s new unisex scooter has been launched at a lucrative price of Rs 42,990 (ex-showroom, Jaipur).
While the larger Activa, that was first launched in the early 2000s, turned out to be a game changing model for HMSI. In fact, it lent a new lease of life to the dying scooter segment that is now growing at a fast pace. Currently in its fourth generation, Activa 4G was recently launched with a BSIV compliant engine, AHO and other subtle changes. In terms of pricing, the Activa 4G is positioned above the new Cliq at Rs 51,172 (ex-showroom, Delhi). Compared to the new Cliq, the Activa 4G is pricier by Rs 8,672.

The new Honda Cliq carries the 109.19cc, fan cooled, 4-troke, SI engine with 8bhp of power at 7,000rpm with 8.94Nm torque at 5,500rpm. While the Activa 4G comes with the same 109.19cc, air cooled, 4-stroke, SI, BS IV unit that makes 8bhp at 7,500rpm and 9Nm of torque at 5,500rpm. Mated to a V-Matic CVT, both the models derive power from the same engine, claimed to offer top speed of 83km/h.

The new Cliq has a 3mm longer wheelbase and 1mm higher ground clearance. While the Activa 4G is 16mm longer, 15mm wider and 110mm higher. Similarly, the seat on the Activa 4G is placed 22mm higher at 765mm compared to Cliq with a seat height of 743mm. In terms of weight, the new Cliq is 6kgs lighter than Activa 4G with a relatively larger fuel tank of 5.3L against Cliq with 3.5L fuel tank.

The new Honda Cliq packs features like wider floor board, large seat, additional load carrier, block pattern tubeless tyres, under seat storage with mobile charging socket. It also comes with self-start, viscous air filter, automatic headlamps on, Honda’s gearless HET engine and a maintenance free battery. One of the most significant feature on the new Cliq is the combi brake system with equaliser.
On the other hand, the longstanding Activa that is currently in its fourth generation gets a new edgy front cover, mobile charging socket, 18-litres under-seat storage space, Honda’s new HET BSIV compliant engine, premium 3D emblem, integrated headlamps and side indicators, automatic headlamp on (AHO), refreshing instrument panel. At the back, it sports broad taillamps and classic clear winkers. Just like Cliq, it also comes with Combi Brake System that improves braking performance.
