Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) Ltd is gearing up for the launch of its latest 150cc bike – the Honda CB Hornet 160R in the country. The bike will come as a replacement for the slow-selling CB Trigger. The ‘Hornet’ is Honda’s popular brand name, which has various motorcycles ranging from 250cc to 900cc. For the first time, the Hornet brand will be used for a low capacity bike. The Hornet 160R will directly rival the likes of the Suzuki Gixxer and the Yamaha FZ-S FI. Here is a spec-based comparison among these three bikes –

The Honda CB Hornet 160R is powered by a more powerful 162.71cc engine that also powers the Unicorn 160. This engine churns out a maximum power output of 14.3bhp at 8,000rpm along with a peak torque of 14.61Nm at 6,000rpm. It will be coupled to a 5-speed transmission with 1-down 4 up-shift pattern.

The Suzuki Gixxer is propelled by a 155cc motor that is capable of producing 14.6PS at 8,000rpm along with a peak torque 14Nm at 6,000rpm. On the other hand, the Yamaha FZ-S FI gets a 149cc motor that is good for 13bhp of power and 12.8Nm of torque. Both these motorcycles are paired to a 5-speed gearbox. The FZ-S is the only bike in this segment to feature a fuel injection system.

The Suzuki Gixxer is priced at Rs. 76,430 while the Yamaha FZ-S FI, with fuel injection system, is tagged at Rs. 85,451. It is expected that the Honda CB Hornet 160R will be priced in the range of Rs. 75,000 to Rs. 80,000.

The Honda CB Hornet 160R will share styling cues with the CX-01 concept, which was unveiled at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo. The bike features a stylish headlamp with minimal fairing, muscular fuel tank, a black centre piece, plastic side cowls, dual-tone front mud-guard and single piece seat. Other noticeable features include silver tailpiece, short silencer, split grab rails and X-shaped LED taillights.

All three bikes ride on telescopic front forks at the front and drum brakes at the rear. The Hornet 160 will be equipped with disc at the front and drum brakes at the rear along with Honda’s combi-braking system. While the wheelbase of Gixxer and FZ-S FI is 1,330mm, the Hornet 160R is expected to get around 1,324mm of wheelbase. Talking about ground clearance, the Gixxer and FZ-S FI comes with 160mm of ground clearance while the Hornet 160R’s ground clearance will be 150mm. All three bikes are equipped with all-digital instrument clusters. However, the Gixxer gets additional gear indicator and shift light. The FZ-S FI gets simple bulbs for taillamp, while the other two bikes feature LED taillamps. The Hornet 160R and the Gixxer comes with an option of kick-start along with electric start, while the FZ-S FI only gets electric start.
