2019 Honda City is currently available in the price range of Rs 9.70 lakh – Rs 14.05 lakh.
Honda was among the several foreign manufacturers to make inroads in India towards the end of 1990s. And while the Japanese auto giant has rolled out several models all this time, Honda City sedan been the most successful car which was first introduced in 1998. The City facelift comes with several features cosmetic upgrades in-line with Honda’s new design tenet. The 2019 Honda City model gets better in visual terms, thanks to new honeycomb grille, revised bumper, LED headlights, fog lights and reworked taillights with LEDs. Inside the cabin, the model has new 7-inch DIGIPAD touchscreen infotainment system. Power sources on the 2019 Honda City carline include a 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol and a 1.5-litre i-DTEC oil burner. These engines get a choice between a 5-speed & 6-speed manuals along with a CVT with paddle shifters. One must note that automatic variants are offered only with petrol variants.

The 2019 Honda City carline is offered with petrol and diesel units in two manual and one automatic gearbox. When launched in 2017, the facelifed version was priced in the range of Rs 8.71 lakh – Rs 13.82 lakh. The mid-size sedan, currently, costs between Rs 9.70 lakh – Rs 14.05 lakh. The petrol range starts at Rs 9.70 lakh and goes up to Rs 1405 lakh for the range topping variant. Diesel City on the other hand is priced between Rs 11.00 lakh to Rs 14.05 lakh. New Honda City 2019 Exterior
The existing Honda City looks largely same as the pre-facelift version save for new Civic inspired elements. There is no change in terms of proportions as it retains the same proportions from the previous City. Most of the changes are made to the front as it gets new honeycomb grille, assertive bumper, LED headlamps, day time running lights, sleeker chrome-bar, fog lamps etc. Subtle changes have been made to the side and it looks largely same as the preceding model. Dimensions – In terms of proportions, the new Honda City 2019 measures same as its predecessor. That said, it measures 4,440mm, 1,695mm and 1,495mm in length, width and height, respectively. It sits on a long wheelbase of 2,600mm that translates into a spacious cabin and offers ample boot space for storing luggage. The vehicle has a large luggage space of 510-litres, which is more than sufficient to accommodate 4-5 suitcases.

Recently, the carmaker added two new metallic colour scheme to the sedan lineup – Radiant Red Metallic and Lunar Silver Metallic. The car is also avialable in five regular exterior paint jobs – Carnelian Red Pearl, Modern Steel Metallic, Golden Brown Metallic, White Orchid Pearl and Albaster Silver Metallic.

Changes made to the interior make it more upmarket and more appealing in visual terms. While Honda has added new equipment, styling tweaks lend it a more premium look. That said, it gets a segment first soft touch material around the front passenger dashboard setting a benchmark in the segment. The sedan can accommodate five adults easily, albeit rear is a bit cramped with relatively less headroom.
A 7.0-inch advanced touchscreen infotainment system sits inside. If reports are to be believed, next-gen City will have new infotainment system with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay support. The luggage compartment has a capacity of 501-litres for storing luggage. It additionally comes with a lamp for the convenience of occupants.

The 2019 Honda City line-up is available in both petrol and diesel engines. The petrol version is powered by a tried & tested 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder i-VTEC unit that produces 118bhp of power at 6,600rpm and 145Nm torque at 4,600rpm. The diesel City gets Honda’s 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder i-DTEC oil burner that makes 99bhp at 3,600rpm against 200Nm torque at 1,750rpm. Transmission options include a conventional 5-speed manual unit, a 6-speed manual gearbox and a CVT that is available only on select petrol variants. Featuring the same engines used in the pre-facelift model, there is no significant change in performance. However, the NVH levels have improved though noise still seeps inside the cabin, hence there is some room for improvement. The low-end power delivery on the diesel engine makes it suitable for city driving. The road grip has also been improved courtesy new 16-inch tyres. The next-gen City will receive BSVI compliant engines, which will offer better NVH levels and performance.

Powered by Honda’s 1.5-litre i-VTEC engine, the petrol City is rated at 17.4km/l in manual version opposed to 18km/l in CVT option. Diesel City is claimed to return excellent mileage compared to its petrol counterpart with 25.6km/l of ARAI rated fuel economy.

Honda City Competition
The Honda City primarily competes with Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and Hyundai Verna in the mid-size sedan segment. Should You Buy It?
The new Honda City 2019 looks sportier and receives new elements inspired by Civic. Most of the changes on the outside are made to the front that injects aggression to the face. Interiors too get updates for a more upmarket look. The material quality has improved, and it packs in additional kit including some of the segment first features. On the safety front, the 2019 Honda City features standard dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and ISOFIX child seats. Although, Honda claims to rework the NVH levels, but there is still room for improvement.
