Honda Brio Compact SUV Launch, Price in India, Pics

Honda Compact SUV Concept front picture

After the new-generation Jazz, the next all new product from Honda Cars India will be a compact SUV. To be based on the Brio platform, the sub-compact SUV might take its design inspiration from the Vision XS-1 concept which was unveiled at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo.

Though the company hasn’t revealed its launch details, we expect its production-ready model to be showcased at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo. And the reason we say this is because of the fact that the company has imported this product as the ‘2SJ’ in India for testing purpose. The vehicle’s R&D (research & development) work will happen at Honda Cars India’s upcoming research centre in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh.

The unit that has been imported to India features a 1.5-litre i-DTEC engine, which is the same powertain that powers the Honda City, Amaze, Mobilio and the new-generation Jazz. The 7-seater Brio compact SUV will take on the likes of Ford EcoSport, Renault Duster, Hyundai ix25 and others in the segment.

Exterior and Interior Design

As mentioned above, Honda’s Brio-based compact SUV – the 2SJ – might take its design inspiration from the Vision XS-1 concept that made its debut at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo. In fact, a rendering done by Car and Driver (Brazil Edition) too looks amalgamation of Vision XS-1 concept and CR-V. The rear profile of the car has CR-V inspired tall tail-lamps, body cladding on the rear bumper and slender shaped glass panel. The vehicle’s cabin will share its design and features with the Mobilio and Amaze – other two products based on Brio platform.

Honda Brio Compact SUV Engine Specs and Power

The Honda Brio 2SJ compact SUV will share its engines with other Honda car models in India. The vehicle will most probably get a 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine and a 1.5-litre petrol motor. While the diesel unit churns out a maximum power output of 99bhp and 200Nm of peak torque, the petrol engine produces 117bhp while yielding 145Nm. To price the product more competitive, the company has an option to use the 1.2-litre i-VTEC engine too that powers the Brio and Amaze. The transmission on options could be a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed CVT automatic gearbox. In fact, the imported unit too features a 5-speed CVT gearbox.

Honda Brio Compact SUV Mileage (Expected)

Since both the engines, 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol and 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel, are known for their high fuel efficiency, we expect the Honda Brio 2SJ compact SUV, too, to be as economical-to-run as other Honda Cars in India. With the same diesel engine, the Mobilio – another 7-seater product based on Brio platform – returns around 24kmpl, so we expect the compact SUV, too, to return almost equal fuel efficiency.

Honda Brio Compact SUV Price in India (Expected) – Rs. 7 lakh – Rs. 10 lakh
