Hero Splendor Becomes Best Selling Two Wheeler in October; Beats Activa

What has helped the Splendor snatch the top position is the revival in rural markets and good festive season.

With a total sales of 2,54,813 units in October 2016, the Hero Splendor has hit the purple patch in the Indian two-wheeler segment. Beating the Honda Activa, which was spiralled around the top position for the last 9 months, the Splendor has once again reclaimed its spot as the best-selling two-wheeler in October 2016. What has helped the Splendor snatch the top position is the revival in rural markets and good festive season. The launch of the Hero Splendor iSmart 110, too, has worked in the favour of the bike.

As per the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) data the Honda Activa registered a total sales of 2,50,681 units, which is nearly 4,000 units less than the Splendor. Hero MotoCorp sells seven motorcycles under the Splendor brand – Splendor+, Splendor Pro, Splendor Pro Classic, Splendor iSmart, Splendor iSmart 110 and Super Splendor. On the flip side, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has three products under the Activa name – Activa 125, Activa-i and Activa 3G.

The third position is again grabbed by a Hero product – HF Deluxe – with 1,33,986 units sales in October, 2016. What comes as a surprise is the sales figures of the TVS XL Super moped that stood the fourth with 87,746 units sales. The moped accounts 34% growth against the same period of the last year. Honda CB Shine and Hero Glamour secured the fifth and the sixth spots respectively, while the Bajaj Pulsar holds seventh position. The Bajaj Plantina is the new entrant in the list of the top 10 selling two wheelers in October 2016, while the TVS Jupiter is the only other scooter.

Commenting on the sales, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter (HMSI) said, “Scooterization led festive demand not only in urban markets but also in semi-urban and rural markets. In this festive period, Activa again led the growth with peak retails of 7 lakh plus units, followed by 125cc motorcycle CB Shine (2 lakh plus retails).”
