The battle between the Honda Activa – India’s top-selling scooter and the Hero Splendor – world’s largest selling motorcycle has always been interesting to watch out for. In terms of sales in March 2018, Hero MotoCorp’s highly popular Splendor commuter outsold the Honda Activa with a margin of 54,696 units.
While the Splendor registered a total sales of 2,62,232 units, the Activa clocked sales of 2,07,546 units. This comes as a surprise as HMSI recently introduced the new Activa 5G with subtle design and feature upgrades. Major highlights of the automatic scooter include LED headlamp with a position lamp, new chrome inserts, new front hook, updated muffler and revised instrument cluster.
On the other hand, Hero MotoCorp rolled out the 2018 model year of the Splendor with a more powerful and refined engine. Alongside, the bike gets minor cosmetic changes and a few new features. The commuter uses the brand’s in-house developed 125cc, air-cooled engine making 11.24bhp and 11Nm of torque. The same powertrain does duty in the new Hero Glamour. Benefited with Hero’s i3S start-stop technology, the 2018 Hero Splendor offers a top speed of 94kmph.
Talking about Hero MotoCorp’s future plan, the home-grown two-wheeler manufacturer is planning to launch a bunch of new scooters and bikes in coming years. One of the much-awaited Hero’s bikes is the all-new Xtreme 200R that was previewed in January, 2018. This naked street bike uses a 18.4bhp, 200cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that meets BSIV emission norms.
Besides this, the Hero XPulse entry-level adventure bike will also make its way to India sometime this year. In the scooter segment, the company will bring in the Maestro Edge 125 and Duet 125 that made their debut at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo. Towards the end of this year, Hero might also introduce a new electric scooter – AXL HE20.
