Aiming to tap the growing 125cc scooter segment, Hero MotoCorp will introduce two new models – the Maestro Edge 125 and the Duet 125. Both the vehicles first broke cover at the Auto Expo 2018. While the new Hero Maestro Edge 125 with sporty styling will appeal young buyers, the Duet 125 will target mass audience. Engine mechanism of both the scooters is same – i.e. 125cc, single-cylinder engine with i3S technology. Apart from a new powertrain, the Maestro Edge 125 receives new body graphics and features.
As a reminder, the 125cc version of the Maestro Edge was first previewed at the Auto Expo in February 2018. As far as launch is concerned, the company announced that it will roll out the scooter in the second quarter of the 2018-19 financial year. According to an online report, the Hero Maestro Edge 125 will go on sale in 2018 festive season (i.e. in October or November). We will update the official launch date once the bikemaker announces it. The existing 110cc model of the scooter comes in the range of Rs 49,700 – Rs 51,150 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The new 125cc Maestro Edge will be put up against the Honda Grazia and Honda Activa. Models such as the recently-launched TVS NTorq and Aprilia SR 125 will also impact its sales. Developed at Hero’s Centre of Innovation and Technology (CIT) in Jaipur, the Maestro Edge 125 could be priced between Rs 50,000 – Rs 60,000 (ex-showroom). For power, the scooter makes use of a 125cc, single-Energy cylinder Boost engine that returns a claimed power of 8.7bhp at 6,750rpm and a peak torque of 10.2Nm at 5,000rpm. This powertrain is boosted with i3S (idle-start-stop) technology that aids to its performance and fuel efficiency. Interestingly, the Maestro Edge 125 and Duet 125 are the first Hero scooters to feature i3S system. Transmission on offer is a CVT (continuously variable transmission) unit. Design and styling of the scooter looks identical to the 110cc Maestro Edge. Though, it has sharper front and rear styling. It has fibre body panels and new body graphics. The scooter rides on a larger 12-inch front alloy wheel. Features on-board include an LED taillight, digital analogue instrumentation, external fuel filing, service indicators, remote key opening and a side stand. It also gets an optional front disc brake. Buyers will be available with four colour options – Matte Brown, Matte Red, Matte Vernier Grey and Matte Techno Blue.
