There has been strong speculation about the launch of the latest generation Suzuki Jimny in India. However, latest media reports claim that the new model won’t make its way to Indian market. It was speculated that the 5-door version of the Jimny will come as a replacement for the current Gypsy and will be called the new-gen Maruti Gypsy. The new model was rumoured to be introduced as a lifestyle product in the Maruti Suzuki’s product portfolio in India.
So, when will the next-gen Maruti Gypsy launch in India? The answer is not before 2020. Maruti Suzuki feels that the low demand for a 3-door small SUV doesn’t justify introducing the Jimny to India. We believe that the new-gen Maruti Gypsy will not be launched in India before 2020. A local production could help Maruti Suzuki to go for a 5-seater Jimny, which could eventually become new Gyspy for Indian market. However, this model will only come as a lifestyle product.
