Called Tata Harrier, the 5-seater premium SUV based on the H5X concept SUV will go on sale in the Indian market in the first quarter of 2019

Tata Motors had unveiled the H5X concept SUV at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo. The company has officially announced that the SUV will go on sale in the Indian market in the first quarter of 2019. Called Tata Harrier, the 5-seater premium SUV will enter into production in late 2018. Here we bring you 5 facts you should know about the Tata Harrier SUV –

– First model based on OMEGA platform

The Harrier will be first Tata model to be based on the OMEGA (Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced) platform. This platform is basically the modified version of the Land Rover’s D8 platform, which underpins the Discovery Sport. The OMEGA platform is highly capable both on and off-road. Tata will also introduce several new models based on this platform in future.

– IMPACT DESIGN 2.0

It will be Tata’s first model to feature the company’s new IMPACT Design 2.0 design language, which will also be offered in the upcoming Tata 45X concept based premium hatchback. This is basically the evolved version of IMPACT design language offered on the Tiago and Nexon. It features high bonnet, sloping roof-line, high-mounted LED headlamps and a stroking 3D ‘Humanity Line’ that underlines the headlamps and front grille, and the signature ‘tri-arrow’ pattern for fog lamps. Other design highlights include flared wheel arches, bold creases, blacked C-pillar, trapezoidal fenders, wraparound smoked tail-lights, etc.

– Fiat’s Engine

The upcoming SUV will be powered by Fiat sourced 2.0-litre MultiJet diesel engine that also powers the Jeep Compass. This engine offers two states of tunes – 148bhp with 350Nm and 170bhp with 350Nm. It is expected that the Harrier will use the de-tuned version of this engine. The company is also working on a 7-seater premium SUV on this platform, which is likely to use the 170bhp, 2.0L diesel engine. Transmission options include a 9-speed automatic and a six-speed unit. – Jeep Compass Challenger

The concept model measures over 4.5 meter in length, which makes it bigger than the Hyundai Creta and Jeep Compass. With premium interior, powerful engine and bold design, Tata H5X five-seater model will rival a range of cars. However, it will mainly target Jeep Compass and Hyundai Tucson.

– Interior

Tata Motors claims that the new model will have segment leading HMI (Human Machine Interface) displays with excellent user interface. The SUV gets two-layered dashboard with large touchscreen integrated into the centre console. Other features will include electrically adjustable front seats with memory function, centre armrest, automatic climate control, rear AC vents, etc.
