Govt Says No to Tata Tigor and Mahindra Verito Electric Cars!

Tata Tigor Electric Model

Both the vehicles are complaint for their low electric range and poor performance.

Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra signed a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with State-run Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) for supplying electric vehicles. In fact, both the companies shipped the first batch of the Tata Tigor EV and Mahindra Verito EV to the government last year. These cars were sourced to replace the conventional vehicles used by the central government and its agencies.

Now, the government has called off the deal and scrapped the second tender for procurement of the 10,000 electric cars. The decision has been taken as the carmakers didn’t clarify on specifications for the chargers. Both the vehicles are complaint for their low electric range and poor performance. This move will open a way for the luxury vehicle manufacturers.

Tata Tigor Electric Rolled Out

The procured Tata Tigor EV and Mahindra Verito EV are delivering an electric range of 80-82 kilometres on a single charge, as claimed by the government officials. While the globally retailed electric cars use batteries ranging from 27kW to 35kW, the Tigor and Verito EVs come with a 17kW battery. The latter deliver lower range than the claimed figures (100-120kms on a full charge). Read – Tata Tiago EV Price & Launch Details
