GM’s new platform “Amber” to host compact sedan, SUV and a hatchback

We reported earlier that General Motors is working on a new platform, Codenamed Amber, which will underpin a small hatchback. Now, reports are coming that it will be a versatile platform which will be used to develop three new cars including a compact sedan, compact SUV and a small car.

The cars produced will be specially developed for the developing nations including Brazil, Russia, India, Thailand and Mexico. The development progress for the platform is closely followed by GM CEO Mary Barra. The GM’s Amber platform is being designed in Europe and the engineering work will be done in Brazil.

The company aims to sell around 1-1.2 million units of vehicle based on the Amber platform, out of which around 1.5 lakh units are aimed to sell in the Indian market. At the 2014 Indian Auto Expo, General Motors unveiled the Chevrolet Adra concept. The production version of the SUV will go on sale in Brazil and India; however, the vehicle will go on sale in 2017-18. Till 2017-18, General Motors will only offer facelifts and special editions of the existing cars.
