Ford’s New SUV Codenamed W601 Will Rival Tata Harrier; Announcement Soon
Ford’s upcoming premium SUV will share platform with Mahindra’s C SUV architecture
Ford and Mahindra have recently entered into the strategic partnership of sharing platforms, engines, electric vehicles and connectivity technology. If reports are to be believed, Ford and Mahindra have already concluded the negotiations on connected car technology and powertrains with a commercial agreement. The alliance will soon make an official announcement on the important sharing vehicle architecture as well.
According to the Economictimes, the alliance will make an official announcement on C-segment SUV within a month. Adding to it, negotiations for the B-segment SUV and an electric vehicle architecture are still going on. The report further claims that the sourcing for the C-segment SUVs, codenamed W601 and W605 has already been started. The new SUV is expected to be developed at the Mahindra’s Chakan facility. Ford will introduce an all-new SUV based on the Mahindra’s C-segment SUV architecture, which is also likely to underpin the next-gen XUV500. The homegrown UV maker might share Ford’s B-segment architecture for a monocoque SUV.
It is expected that the alliance could help save more than 7,000 crore. Mahindra will also supply BSVI compliant petrol engines to Ford to power its current as well as future products. Mahindra will also help Ford to enter into areas where it has no presence. Some of the Mahindra dealers will also open Ford dealerships in their respective areas.
