Ford Figo compact sedan concept

American automaker Ford will launch the new generation Figo hatchback and the Figo compact sedan in the Indian car market. Unveiled at the 2014 Delhi Motor Show, the Figo sedan concept is expected to be launched by the end of this year or by early next year. At the unveiling, Nigel Harris, president of Ford India hinted that the production of the sedan will commence by the year end, while the launch could happen in the first quarter of 2015.

New Generation Ford Figo- Most Frequently asked Questions

Ford India is also planning to launch the new generation Figo hatchback by the end of 2015. Figo made its Indian entry in 2010, and it is a well know fact that a product has a minimum lifecycle of 5 years. The company has already introduced the facelifted version of this hatchback and we strongly believe that the 2015 festive season would be the perfect time to launch the new generation Figo.

With the growing demand for compact sedans in the country, it is expected that the company will fasten the process to launch the Figo sedan. Moreover, it won’t make sense for the car manufacturer to launch two products with similar fascia in the same time frame. So, we expect that Figo sedan will come first while the hatchback will be launched by the festive season, 2015. [Read: Upcoming Compact Sedan cars in India]

The new Ford Figo sedan will be manufactured at the company’s new manufacturing unit in Sanand, Gujarat. The sub-4 metre sedan will directly compete against the likes of Maruti Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze, and Hyundai Xcent and soon to be launched Tata Zest. Both the products will be based on the updated version of the previous generation Fiesta platform. The company has used higher strength and lighter steel structure to keep the body weight down.

The exterior styling of the Figo concept looks identical to the Ford Ka hatchback concept showcased in Brazil last year. It gets aggressive and aerodynamic creases running all around the car. At the front, the compact sedan features trapezoidal grille (Aston-Martin like grille) which is also visible on the new Ford Fiesta facelift, swept back large headlamps, large bumper with wide air dam and a pair of fog lamps. The styling elements are 8-spoke alloy wheels, ORVMs with integrated turn indicators, boomerang shaped rear taillight design and silver diffuser on the rear bumper.

Under the hood, it is speculated that Ford Figo concept sedan will get the renowned 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine that produces 123bhp and 170Nm of top torque. However, we expect it to get the naturally aspirated 1.2-litre petrol engine producing 70bhp and a 1.4-litre diesel engine. While the diesel version will be coupled to a five-speed manual transmission gearbox, the petrol variant will be mated to five-speed manual or CVT gearbox.
