We reported earlier that Ford India is in talks with Citroen for contract manufacturing of products at one of its production facility. The company is also planning to launch multiple new products in the Indian market. In order to improve sales, Ford India will be launching the automatic version of the Figo hatchback.
The Ford Figo automatic will be launched in the Indian market on July 22, 2021. It will come with a six-speed automatic gearbox with a 1.2-litre petrol engine. It is a six-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox, which is the same that is offered with the EcoSport compact SUV. The Ford EcoSport is powered by a 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine.
It is still unclear that the new 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox will be offered with the Aspire and the Freestyle. Diesel version is not likely to get an automatic gearbox option. The Ford Figo is powered by a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine that is capable of producing 95bhp and 119Nm of torque. The current model is paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
The Figo manual version is claimed to return an ARAI certified fuel economy of 18.5kmpl. The automatic version is likely to return slightly lower than the existing model. The diesel version of the hatchback is powered by a 1.5-litre engine that produces 99bhp of power and 215Nm of torque.
The Ford Figo automatic will be positioned against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Swift AMT and the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios AMT. It is expected to be priced around Rs 50,000 – Rs 60,000 more than its manual gearbox.
