American automaker Ford is planning to launch a series of new cars in the Indian car market. The company will launch three new cars including new generation Figo, Figo sedan and new Endeavour in 2015. We reported earlier that Ford is also aiming to launch the iconic Mustang in the country in 2016-17.
It was speculated that Ford will introduce the iconic Mustang in India in 2015. However, the company has delayed the introduction by a couple of years and now the vehicle is likely to come by end of 2016 or 2017. According to livemint report, the market showdown has delayed the launch of a multipurpose vehicle on the Figo platform and the Mustang, which will now be launched in India only in 2016-17, two years behind schedule.
According to a Ford spokesperson, “The pace of product introductions has to be in tune with market needs and business conditions. Over the last 18 months, the Indian automobile industry has continued to see challenging times. In relation, we have also been adjusting our plans to review the pace of our product introduction to ensure more focused products get introduced in India at an appropriate time”.
The multipurpose vehicle based on the Figo platform will share its design and engine configuration with the new generation Figo and its sedan sibling. The company will launch the Figo sedan and new generation Figo sedan by the first half of 2015, while the new Endeavour is likely to come by festive season. The Figo platform based cars will be made available in both petrol and diesel guise. It is speculated that the cars will get the renowned 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine that produces 123bhp and 170Nm of torque. However, we believe that the Figo range in India will be powered by the naturally aspirated 1.2-litre petrol and 1.4-litre diesel engine.
