Ford EcoSport Clone: Chinese BYD Yuan EV Introduced

Chinese electric vehicles maker, BYD is one of the fastest growing electric vehicle manufacturers in the world. This brand has partnerships with several automakers including Toyota. The company is now expanding its operations in other markets including Colombia. BYD has now introduced an all-new Yuan compact electric SUV, which has the same design as the Ford EcoSport.

The company will start delivering the Yuan electric vehicle in Columbia in the second half of 2020. The first batch will have 132 electric cars and will be sold through local distributor Motorysa. Apart from the Yuan, the Chinese automaker will also introduce the Tang, a larger SUV in Columbia. Commenting on the launch, Audrey Li, General Manager, BYD America Auto Sales Passenger Car Department, said, “We will leverage their local sales network to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles, helping local governments to continue to facilitate zero-emission transportation.”

BYD Yuan has similar styling to the Ford EcoSport; however, it gets new design elements as well. At the front, the Yuan gets signature front grille, newly styled C-pillar and LED headlights. The BYD Yuan features a 53.22 kWh battery that offers a range of 410km in normal use or up to 535 km in constant low speed.

The BYD Yuan is claimed to achieve 0 to 50kmph in 3.9 seconds. The electric powertrain produces 160bhp of power and 275Nm of torque. The electric battery is claimed to be charged to 80% from zero in 1 hour 10 minutes on fast charger.

BYD Tang EV

The BYD Tang measures 4,870mm in long and has a battery of 82.8 kWh. This model will be launched in the European markets with a range of around 500km in normal conditions and up to 600km running at constant low speed. It features two electric motors and offers a total power of 489bhp and 330Nm of torque. It accelerates to 100kmph from zero in just 4.4 seconds. With fast charger, the SUV’s battery charges up to 80% in 30 minutes.
