Mahindra-Ford Alliance – Select M&M Dealers to Open Ford Outlets in Rural India
The select Mahindra dealers have opened separate service centers for Ford cars at their dealerships.
Ford Motor Company and Mahindra & Mahindra had announced its joint collaboration in September 2017 and signed five MoUs in March 2018. Both companies agreed to develop new vehicles (including a new midsize SUV, compact SUV and an electric vehicle) for the Indian market.
Further strengthening the strategic partnership, both companies signed agreements on engine sharing and connected car solutions. Under this agreement, the home-grown carmaker will develop and supply a small capacity petrol engine to Ford for its existing and future models in 2020. While Ford will look to gain more traction in the domestic market by accessing Mahindra’s experience in sourcing and distribution, Mahindra will be benefited from the American carmaker’s global reach and expertise.
Expanding their alliance, Select Mahindra & Mahindra dealers will open Ford outlets in select 15 towns. These are the areas where the American carmaker doesn’t have an outlet or an existing showroom isn’t attracting enough buyers. The select Mahindra dealers have also opened separate service centers for Ford cars at their dealerships. Mahindra dealers would be able to make additional money by retailing and servicing Ford cars. With this move, Ford will take advantage of Mahindra’s nationwide network, especially in small towns and rural areas. The report further says that both carmakers will continue to explore “the benefit of leveraging the Mahindra network in areas where Ford dealership is not present/planned”.
