American SUV maker, Jeep is gradually entering into fuel efficient and environment friendly segment. The company has recently introduced the plug-in hybrid versions of the Renegade and Compass 4xe. A new media report reveals few details about the first 100% electric Jeep SUV.
The first pure electric Jeep SUV will be produced at the Jeep factory in Melfi, Italy. This plant also produces the Jeep Renegade, Compass and the 4xe hybrid plug-in versions of the Renegade and Compass. The report further claims that the Jeep’s first electric vehicle won’t be an electric version of the Renegade or Compass. It will be an all-new model and will be smaller than the Renegade. According to the Spanish media, the new SUV will be around 30cm smaller than the Renegade that is smaller than a Suzuki Jimny.
The mini Jeep electric SUV will be designed and developed on the e-CMP electric platform or the e-VMP architecture. The recently announced e-VMP platform is capable of accommodating batteries offering up to 650km range. The new model will be developed with the help of Groupe PSA. For people not in the know, Groupe PSA and FCA joins hands to form a new automotive group, called Stellantis.
Jeep has already announced to introduce electric versions of its entire model range by 2022. The company will introduce around 12 electric SUVs. In India, Jeep will introduce an all-new 7-seater SUV based on the Compass and an all-new sub-4 meter SUV. The sub-4 meter SUV is rumoured to be based on the Groupe PSA’s CMP platform. It will also come in hybrid and electric version.
