Fiat, the Italian carmaker is working on an all-new sedan, which will replace the ageing Linea. Codenamed X6S, the vehicle is based on the Fiat Argo hatchback that is also likely to come India in 2018. The company has already started testing the Argo sedan in Argentina, indicating to a near launch. This sedan will replace the Fiat Grand Siena and Linea in South America.
Though the spotted model was fully covered, it reveals some of the design highlights of the sedan. This mid-sized sedan features black multi-spoke alloy wheels and ORVMs with integrated blinkers. It will have a longer wheelbase, which will turn into more space for rear occupants and increased luggage compartment. The overall cabin design of the car is expected to be in-line with Argo; however, it could get high-end features and premium upholstery for seats and steering.
Besides sharing platform and interior, the Fiat X6S will also source its engine setup from the hatchback sibling. The sedan will be equipped with a 1.3-litre FireFly 4-cylinder petrol and 1.8-litre eTorq Evo petrol engines. While the former is capable of producing 101bhp and 134.35bhp of power, the latter is good for 135bhp of power and 184.37Nm of torque. Fiat X6S Launch Date
The Argo based mid-sized sedan is likely to make its global debut in late 2017. The vehicle will go on sale in Argentina in early 2018. It is quite early to comment whether this mid-sized sedan will come to India. If it comes, the Argo sedan could be priced in the range of Rs 8 lakh to Rs 12 lakh. The vehicle will be positioned against the likes of Honda City, Hyundai Verna and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.
Fiat X6S Sedan Specifications
The X6S sedan will share the engine specs from the Argo hatchback. It will be offered with three engine options – a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder ‘Firefly’ motor, a 1.3-litre Firefly unit and a 1.8-litre, 4-cylinder EtorQ Evo. The smalles engine is good for 77bhp of power and 107Nm of torque, while the 1.3L Firefly motor is good for 109bhp and 139.25Nm of torque. The range-topping 1.8L EtorQ Evo engine is good for 139bhp of power and 189.27Nm of torque. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed automatic or an AMT unit.
In India, the vehicle could get the existing 1.4-litre petrol and 1.3-litre MJD diesel engines. While the former produces 112bhp of power and 207Nm of torque, the oil burner is good for 93bhp of power and 209Nm of torque. The carline is likely to come with a 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT/automatic gearbox options.
Going by the media reports, the Fiat X6S sedan will measure around 4.4 meters in length. The front design of the sedan seems largely identical to the Argo, but it will have new front bumper to give it a refreshing look. The cabin too seems similar to the Argo, but it will get added features and new upholstery for seats and steering. The vehicle will have longer wheelbase than the Argo, which translates into spacious cabin and bigger boot.
