September 23, 2016 – Fiat India has finally launched the long-awaited Fiat Urban Cross in the country. Available in both petrol and diesel fuel options, the Avventura based crossover is priced in the range of Rs 6.85 lakh to Rs 9.85 lakh. Bookings for the car have already begun at a token amount of Rs 21,000, while the nation wide deliveries are scheduled to commence from October 1, 2016.
The Fiat Urban Cross was first showcased at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo in pre-production form. The production version looks largely identical to the concept. It comes with a raised ground clearance of 205mm, which is more than sufficient to tackle Indian road conditions.
The Urban Cross is the second Fiat product to be based on the Punto hatchback, first being the Avventura. This new crossover shares most of its design bits with the Avventura. Though, the absence of the rear-mounted spare tyre and few more design tweaks mark difference between these two vehicles. Engine for the Fiat Urban Cross is the same as the Abarth Avventura – i.e. 1.4-litre T-Jet turbocharged petrol.

The Urban Cross is available in two engine options – 1.3-litre MJD diesel and 1.4-litre T-Jet Petrol. The 1.4-litreT-Jet turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine is the same that also powers the Abarth Avventura. This petrol unit develops power worth 140bhp at 5,500rpm and 210Nm of torque between 2,000rpm – 4,000rpm. Transmission duties will be carried out by a 5-speed manual gearbox. The oil burner is capable of producing 93bhp of power and 209Nm of torque. Power will be transmitted to front wheels via a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Since the new Fiat crossover shares its engine with the Abarth Avventura, its mileage figures are likely to be equivalent to its sibling. It might offer an average of 13kmpl – 17.1kmpl.
5. Fiat Urban Cross Exterior & Interior
Exterior styling of the Urban Cross is inspired from the Avventura crossover. This new crossover is based on the Fiat Avventura, but it looks more premium and sportier. Unlike the Avventura, the Urban Cross miss out the rear-mounted spare tyre. Features like new front grille, LED headlamps cluster with bezel around the headlights, front bumper with black surrounds and integrated fog lamps further make it look different from its sibling. However, the most significant change comes in the form of large 17-inch wheels as seen on the showcased model.
What add more to its sporty appearance are new roof rails, black gloss, petal design and follow-me-home headlamps. Dimensions of the Fiat Urban Cross are slightly different from the Avventura. The overall length, width and height of the crossover measure 4,000mm, 1,700mm and 1,500mm respectively. It has a ground clearance of 205mm. The vehicle will come with a host of features such as a touchscreen infotainment system with satellite navigation AUX and Bluetooth connectivity and dual-tone (Red & Black) interior. The Urban Cross comes fitted with large 17-inch alloy wheels.
