Fiat Toro 7-Seater SUV – Will It Launch In India?

Fiat Toro pick-up based 7-seater premium SUV will make its global debut at the 2018 Sao Paulo Motor Show

Italian automaker, Fiat will showcase a new 7-seater SUV concept at the 2018 Sao Paulo Motor Show in November. The company hasn’t revealed much about the vehicle, though a series of teasers reveal a possible 7-seater SUV. This will be brand’s answer to the likes of Toyota Fortuner & Ford Endeavour in emerging markets.

The new 7-seater SUV will be based on the Toro pick-up, which is popular in Brazilian markets. What’s interesting is that this SUV will use the Jeep Compass platform. Speculations were on rife that this SUV could also come in Asian markets; however, nothing concrete on the same has been revealed. This gives another speculation about the possible launch in India. So, will this 7-seater SUV launch in India? The answer is a big “NO”. We explain why it is not coming in India –

Fiat Chrysler Automobile Group has decided to focus on Jeep to drive sales in the growing Indian market. In fact, Fiat is slowly exhausting its current stock and converting its dealership to Jeep. This clearly suggests that FCA is in no mood to keep selling Fiat cars in India. Also See – Fiat Toro 7-Seater SUV Rendered

Moreover, Jeep has also announced a 7-seater Low-D segment SUV for Indian market. This SUV will also use the Compass platform and will go on sale in 2021. Keeping 2 SUVs of same dimensions and characteristics will lead to cannibalization. Additionally, Fiat will have to re-invest in dealership network which is not likely to happen.

Coming back to the SUV, the new model is expected to be offered with two engine options – a 2.0-litre Tigershark Flex and 2.0-litre MultiJet diesel. Transmission options are likely to include a 6-speed torque convertor for petrol & a 9-speed automatic unit for diesel. The company could also launch the five-seater model, which could receive a 1.8-litre E.torQ motor.
