Fiat Tipo aka Egea Might Replace the Linea in India

Fiat Tipo (Egea) India

Since the Fiat Tipo (Egea) replaces the Linea globally, we expect it to come to India as well. Having said that, the company is yet to make any official announcement on this.

The global replacement of the Linea – Fiat Aegea – was unveiled at the 2015 Istanbul Motor Show and was launched in Italy in November 2015. Though the vehicle’s name was changed to Fiat Tipo for the Italian market, and Fiat Egea for Turkey and some other markets. Since it’s the company’s global mid-size sedan, we expect it to come to India as well where the company still sells the Linea. Upon its launch in India, the Fiat Tipo (Egea) will take on the likes of Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna and other C-segment cars.

The Fiat Tipo (Egea) surely looks a lot sportier and edgier than the Linea. The vehicle has been designed in Italy at the FCA Style and Centre and produced at Fiat’s Bursa factory in Turkey. The same factory produces the vehicle for over 40 countries. And if it comes to India, the more logical thing would be to produce it locally at the company Ranjangaon facility in Maharashtra.

Fiat Tipo (Egea) Engine & Transmission

The global version of the Fiat Tipo/ Fiat Egea is available in a total of four engine options – 1.4 & 1.6-litre petrol and 1.3 & 1.6-litre diesel. While the 1.4-litre FIRE petrol mill churns out 95bhp, the 1.6-litre petrol is good for 110bhp. The 1.3-litre & 1.6-litre multijet II diesel mills, on the other hand, churn out 95bhp and 120bhp respectively.

If the vehicle comes to India, the company has option to either use the 1.3-litre multijet diesel or a bigger 1.6-litre multijet diesel. Since the demand for petrol-engined vehicles have grown in the last 2-3 years, the company might also bring in the petrol model with one of these two powertrains. The 1.4-litre turbo unit could be the same that does duty in the Fiat Linea T-Jet petrol version.

This is all what we have for now, we’ll update you more on Fiat Tipo / Fiat Egea as soon as the Italian carmaker reveals its India launch plans.
