Fiat Punto replacement to be named as “500 Plus”; launch in 2016-17

Italian car manufacturer has recently unveiled its future plans for the global markets. The company will launch 12 new products in India in next five years. Adding to it, Fiat is also planning to launch the aging Punto successor in European markets in 2016. According to the Automotive News Europe, the successor of the nine-year old Fiat Punto will be named as “500 Plus” and it will go on sale in 2016. The India bound model is likely to hit Indian shores by 2017.

Fiat has recently confirmed that it will launch a new hatchback which will replace the current Punto in the country in 2017. This new model will be based on the ‘New Global Small Platform’ which will be the stretched version of the Chrysler’s small architecture which is used for the Lancia Ypsilon that measures 3840mm in length. This model will be positioned between the 3545mm three-door 500 hatchback and the 4150mm 500L small minivan.

Italian car manufacturer Fiat surely needs a successor for the old Punto. The new model will be manufactured in Poland. The company will invest 2.36 billion zlotys (Rs. 4678 crore) to upgrade its Tychy unit, Poland, and to manufacture the replacement for the Punto hatchback.

Fiat India currently, working hard to revive its lost market share in the growing Indian market. The company will introduce the Punto facelift, Avventura crossover and Abarth500 this year. Moreover, Fiat will also introduce its Jeep brand and Punto Abarth next year.
