Fiat India which is all set to launch the Abarth Punto in October, is also considering to bring-in a high-performance Abarth version of the Linea sedan in the country. Just so you know, the Italian carmaker introduced its iconic performance brand ‘Abarth’ with the 595 Competizione sports coupe in August, 2015.
According to reports, the Linea Abarth will share the engine with the upcoming performance-oriented Abarth Punto hatch. The European-spec model of the Abarth Punto produces a maximum power of 180 bhp. Though, the India-bound model might be a toned down version of the European model. It will derive its power from a 1.4-litre, four-cylinder T-Jet engine that is expected to deliver power close to 145bhp and 196Nm of torque. Though, the company hasn’t yet revealed engine specifications or any detail about the vehicle.
The Fiat Linea Abarth is also expected to receive some mechanical changes such as stiffened suspension and rear disc brakes. The ride height of the car might also be reduced by 20mm. Similar to the Abarth Punto, the Abarth Linea might get some subtle cosmetic updates including the signature Abarth badges.
With Abarth Linea, Fiat aims to improve declining sales of the sedan, and increase its market share in the country. If the company manages to price this performance sedan competitively, the new Abarth Linea will certainly prove to be triumph card for the manufacturer.
