Italian car manufacturer Fiat is gearing up to introduce its flagship and highly anticipated Abarth brand in the Indian car market. The Abarth 500 will be the first Abarth car to come India which will be followed by the Punto Abarth in 2015. At the launch of new Punto Evo, Fiat has confirmed the launch of Punto Avventura crossover hatchback and Abarth 500 this year. While the Avventura will go on sale in the first week of October, the 500 Abarth will hit the Indian shores by the year end.
The Fiat Abarth 500 is basically the sportier version of the Fiat 500. It is powered by the 1.4-litre, turbocharged, 4-cylinder engine that produces two states of tunes- 137PS and 163PS and 230Nm of top torque. If media reports are to be believed, the company will only launch the 137PS version of the car in India. However, it is expected that Fiat might also bring the higher spec ‘Essess’ model to offer the powerful 163PS engine.
The Fiat 500 Abarth gets aggressive front fascia with single chrome grille that accommodates Abarth badge, flanked by split oval shaped headlamps. It runs on the 16-inch alloy wheels while the 17-inch alloy wheels will be offered as optional. It will feature body decals, racing strips, special ‘Abarth’ badging, dual exhaust setup, roof spoiler and diffuser. Inside the cabin, the performance oriented hatch will get perforated leather trim, black leather covered shift knob, aluminium pedals, automatic climate control and many more.
On safety front, the 500 Abarth will get several high end features including seven airbags, traction and stability control, tyre pressure monitoring system, ABS with EBD, brake assist, engine immobilizer and others. It is expected to be priced in the range of Rs. 23-28 lakh.
