A businessman in Hong Kong has bought a parking lot for a whopping HK $5.18 million which equals an eye popping Rs 4.30 crore. According to local reports, this is a world record. Hong Kong is famously known for its mountainous buildings and lofty property prices.
The businessman, identified as Kwan Wai-Ming, is an executive director of the Huarong investment Stock Corporation (as reported by a newspaper in Hong Kong), bought this parking lot on the first floor at a posh apartment complex, close to harbour front, located in the west Hong Kong Island. Measuring 188 square feet, the parking spot is costlier than a HK $4.8 million parking space, bought last year in October at another luxury residential complex.Kwan Wai-Ming’s parking space is apparently 40% bigger than a standard parking lot in Hong Kong, interestingly it is as large as a starter apartment in Hong Kong.
A quick algorithm reveals that this 188 square feet parking lot in Hong Kong costs Rs 2.27 lakh per square feet, which is almost three folds more expensive than business tycoon Mukesh Ambani’s, ‘Antilla’ that has a per square feet cost of Rs 52,000 to Rs 85,000. Even Shah Rukh Khan’s Mannat, priced at Rs 70,000 square feet is modestly cheaper than Hong Kong’s parking spot. One can easily buy a luxury apartment in one of the metro cities in India at the price paid for this bare piece of land for parking a vehicle.
