Hyundai will soon expand its Indian product portfolio with an all-new subcompact SUV. Our sources reveal that the new Hyundai compact SUV will hit showrooms by the end of May or early June, 2019. Prior to its India launch, the vehicle will make its global debut at the New York Auto Show in April, 2019. While the official name of the SUV is yet to be revealed by the carmaker, it’s reported to be named ‘Hyundai Styx’.

Based on the company’s all-new platform, the Hyundai Styx will face challenge from cars like Maruti Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon, Ford EcoSport and the upcoming Mahindra XUV300. Prices of the new Hyundai sub-4 meter SUV are likely to fall in the range of Rs 8 lakh – Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom).

Design and styling of the Hyundai Styx will be inspired by the Hyundai HND-14 Carlino concept that broke cover at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo. The latest spy pictures reveal that the SUV will feature Hyundai’s signature cascading grille and projector headlamps with LED DRLs (daytime running lights) as we have seen on the Kona and new Santa Fe SUVs.

The compact SUV will also have ‘Composite Light’ multi-tier front light layout. While the side profile of the Hyundai Styx will be adorned by Creta-inspired greenhouse, C-pillar and roofline, the raised beltline towards the rear will be carried over from the new Hyundai Grand i10 hatchback.

Rumour has it that the Hyundai Styx (India-spec) will come with two powertrain options – a 1.0L, three-cylinder petrol and a 1.5L, four-cylinder turbocharged diesel. While the gasoline unit will make power worth 118bhp against 171Nm of torque, the oil burner will deliver power close to 115bhp with 250Nm of torque. Hyundai might also introduce a BS6-ready 1.2L Kappa engine and a ‘SmartAuto’ AMT gearbox on the carline.
