NHAI is acquiring about 12,000 hectares for the expressway project. The highway ministry official also revealed that “Now there is a clear line of action. We have fast-tracked the land acquisition process and since the expressway mostly passes through uninhabited areas, getting land is easy. For each package we are getting at least four bidders and all of them are good performing contractors. Since the works are fully funded by government, construction can start soon.”

Just so you know, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announced the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway project in April, 2018. It is likely to be completed by March, 2022. The expressway construction has been divided into 34 stretches and the next stretch which is currently under development is from Vadodara to Mumbai.  It will have a speed limit of 120kmph, which is 20kmph higher than the existing average speed of the expressways.

The Delhi-Mumbai expressway will also reduce the traffic congestion on the NH-8 highway that connects both the cities. Currently, the government is working on 700 National Highway projects and around 300 of them will be finished by the end of this year.
