Globally renowned carmakers had showcased some of their exciting new cars at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo. Besides new cars, automakers had also displayed several future concept cars that are yet to enter into production form. While some of the new cars are yet to go on sale, excitement for the next edition of Asia’s largest automotive event has started to mount up. The 14th edition of this biennial event will kick starts in the second week of February 2018. Scheduled to happen from 9th to 14th February 2018, the Auto Expo 2018 will play host to some of the highly-anticipated models slated for launch in the country in 2018, 2019. While automakers will introduce new concepts that will take some time before getting into production line, some makers will make prominent announcements deeming new models from their global line-up. This time, the Auto Expo 2018 will also host several new electric cars which will be launched in the country in next few years. Carmakers have already started their preparations to make the 14th edition of this event a big one. In fact, details of the new cars and concepts to be showcased have already started to come out. The first model in our list of upcoming Cars at Auto Expo 2018 is the long-awaited Maruti Swift. India’s largest carmaker will officially launch this product at the biennial event in February. The new generation Swift is based on Suzuki’s new generation platform that also underpins the Baleno hatchback. The vehicle has received comprehensive design upgrades. It is claimed to be 120kgs lighter and more fuel efficient than the outgoing model. The hatchback will continue to feature the existing engine lineup – 84bhp, 1.2-litre K-Series petrol and 74bhp, 1.3-litre MJD diesel. Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara (7 Seater)

Vitara Upcoming New Cars At Auto Expo 2018

After receiving excellent response for Vitara Brezza, Maruti is now planning to launch a new 7 seater SUV in India. Likely to be called Grand Vitara, the new SUV will share platform from the smaller sibling. It will rival the likes of Mahindra XUV500 and Tata Hexa. This SUV will join the company’s premium car line-up – Baleno, S-Cross and Ignis – and will be sold through premium NEXA dealerships. Maruti might also launch the global Suzuki Grand Vitara SUV. The global model is 4,175mm long, 1,755mm wide and 1,610mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2,500mm. It has a ground clearance of around 185mm. Under the hood will be a 1.6-litre MJD unit that is good for 118bhp of power and 320Nm of torque. This engine will be paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox driving the power to the front wheels. All New Maruti Hatchback

Next model to join the list of new upcoming cars at Auto Expo 2018 is the Maruti’s new small hatchback, which will be positioned alongside the Alto range. This new Maruti small car will directly rival the Renault Kwid that has hampered the Alto’s sales since its inception in 2015. If media reports are to be believed, the small car will be based on Suzuki Crosshiker concept, which was first previewed at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2013.

New Hyundai Santro

New Hyundai Santro 2018 - cars at Auto Expo 2018

The most popular hatchback from the South Korean automaker – Hyundai Santro – is all set to make a comeback in the country. The next-generation Santro is currently under works, and will have a crossover-ish styling. Set to replace the i10 hatchback, the new model will take on the likes of the Renault Kwid and the next Maruti’s small car. India will serve as the global manufacturing hub for the new Santro. Hyundai Ioniq

Seeing the growing demand for environment friendly cars, Hyundai is planning to launch its global Ioniq hybrid sedan in the Indian car market. Tata Motors will soon supply Tigor EV to Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL). The company could soon launch this model for private buyers. The homegrown automaker had launched the updated KUV100 NXT during festive season, 2017. Mahindra is also working on the AMT version of the mini SUV. The homegrown utility vehicle is working on an all-new 7-seater premium SUV. It is expected that Mahindra is planning to launch the new-generation Rexton SUV under Mahindra umbrella in India. SsangYong has already unveiled the new Rexton SUV for the global markets, and the same is expected to be launched in India. Codenamed Y400, the new SUV is likely to be called Mahindra XUV700. This premium SUV will take on the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and the Isuzu MUX. To be positioned below the Fortuner, the CHR will challenge the likes of Hyundai Tucson, Creta, Mahindra XUV500, Renault Kaptur and the upcoming Honda HRV. After new Prius, the CHR will be the second Toyota in India to be based on the new TNGA platform.
