Datsun Rolls Out 100,000th Car in India

Nissan’s low-cost brand, Datsun has rolled out its 100000th car from Renault-Nissan Alliance’s manufacturing plant in Chennai, India. The 100000th Datsun product revealed from the production line is redi-GO 1L variant. For people not in known, Nissan re-introduced the Datsun brand in 2014 to increase market share in developing nations including India, Russia, Indonesia and South Africa. The company had launched the GO hatchback in the Indian market in March 2014.

In terms of numbers, Datsun consistently sells over 3,500 units each month since redi-GO inception in our market. The Japanese automaker delivers around 2,500 units of the CMF-A based small car in the Indian market each month. The small car is available with two engine options – 0.8-litre 3-cylinder and 1.0-litre SCe petrol. While the former is capable of producing 53.2bhp and 72Nm, the 1.0L engine is good for 67bhp and 91Nm of torque. A 5-speed manual gearbox driving the power to the front wheels come as standard, while an AMT gearbox is offered with 1.0L version only. Photo Gallery: Datsun redi GO – 10 Interesting Things 

Datsun currently sells three cars – GO, GO+ MPV and redi-GO. Additionally, the company also exports these cars to select international markets. The Japanese automaker is also planning to launch GO-Cross concept based compact SUV in the Indian market. Unveiled at the 2016 Auto Expo, the Datsun GO Cross is developed on Nissan’s V-platform that also underpins the GO twins. It will be a sub-4 meter SUV and will challenge the likes of Maruti Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport and Tata Nexon.

Talking about Nissan, the Japanese brand will launch the long-awaited Kicks compact SUV in India in 2018. Based on the V-platform, the new compact SUV is likely to be unveiled at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo. This compact SUV will rival the Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster.
