Jeep Compass Achieves 5 Stars in EURO NCAP Crash Test

The Compass scored 90% in the adult occupant protection and 83% in the child occupant protection.

Jeep Compass has been quite a sensation ever since it was confirmed for the Indian market. In fact, proving all the predictions right, the SUV has been doing exceptionally well in terms of sales. The Compass registered a total sales of 2,020 units in month of August 2017, surpassing the Ford Endeavour. Interestingly, it’s marginally behind the segment-leader Toyota Fortuner that recorded sales of 2,116 units in the same month.

Recently, the Compass has been subjected to the Euro NCAP (European New Car Assessment Programme), and managed to achieve a 5-star safety rating. The SUV scored 90% in the adult occupant protection and 83% in the child occupant protection. The Compass 4X4 Limited variant scored 64% for the pedestrian safety. In the frontal crash rest, the passenger compartment remained stable. The dummy reading also indicated good protection for rear passengers. Though, there was marginal impact to the knees and chest areas. In the side barrier tests, the SUV showed protection to critical body areas. The frontal impact test was performed at the speed of 64kmph and, 40% of the width of the car smacked a deformable barrier. While, the full width test was done at 50kmph and 100% of the width of the car stroked a rigid barrier. The India-spec Compass gets dual front airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic stability control (EBD), electric parking brake, traction and stability control and all four-wheel disc brakes as standard safety fitments. The high-spec trims Limited and Limited (O) variants, additionally, get side and curtain airbags and rear camera.
