Currently, we have 23 CNG cars in the Indian market priced from Rs 3.61 lakh onwards. These are cheaper and greener alternatives to petrol and diesel-powered vehicles. The running cost of a CNG vehicle is around 40-50% lesser than the ICE-powered car. Even if you are looking for a family car with CNG fuel option, there are two three-row MPVs from Maruti Suzuki – Ertiga and XL6.
CNG Family Cars In India
The Maruti Ertiga CNG comes with a 1.5L Dualjet petrol engine paired to a factory-fitted CNG kit. The gasoline unit has two injectors per cylinder providing better control over fuel injection that results improved power and efficiency. The MPV’s CNG setup returns a claimed power of 87bhp and 121.5Nm of torque. In petrol mode, the motor offers a peak power of 100bhp and 136Nm of torque. The Maruti Ertiga CNG can be had with a 5-speed manual gearbox. It promises fuel efficiency of 26.11km/kg.
At present, the MPV model lineup includes two CNG variants – VXi and ZXi – priced at Rs 10.44 lakh and Rs 11.54 lakh respectively. If reports are to be believed, the carmaker might introduce three new CNG variants of the Ertiga, namely, VXi (O), ZX9 (O) and Tour M (O).
The Maruti XL6, the flagship MPV of the Indo-Japanese automaker, received a mid-life updated earlier this year. The model received a few noticeable updates inside and out. Major change comes in the form of a new 1.5L Dualjet petrol engine with Maruti’s Smart Hybrid Technology with start-stop system. The unit delivers power worth 103bhp and 136Nm of torque.
The carmaker recently rolled out the Maruti XL6 CNG based on the entry-level Zeta trim. It has been priced at Rs 12.24 lakh, thus making it around Rs 95,000 more expensive than its petrol counterpart. With the 1.5L K15C petrol unit and CNG kit, the MPV pushes out a peak power of 88bhp and 121.5Nm of torque. It’s available with a 5-speed manual gearbox only. Maruti Suzuki XL6 CNG is one of the most fuel efficient CNG family cars in India. It’s claimed to deliver a mileage of 26.32km/kg.
