Citroen’s First Model For India To Unveil On 3rd April, 2019

Citroen’s first model for India could be C5 Aircross SUV.

Groupe PSA recently announced that it will introduce Citroen brand in the Indian market.  Now, the French carmaker has confirmed that its first product for India will be unveiled on 3rd April 2019 at a press conference in Chennai. While the company hasn’t yet revealed the name of the vehicle, it’s likely to be the Citroen C5 Aircross SUV.

Reports suggest that the Citroen C5 Aircross SUV will see a release in India by the end of 2021. Based on the brand’s EMP2 platform, the C5 Aircross is offered with multiple powertrain options in global markets. In India, the French carmaker will produce vehicles at CK Birla Group’s Tiruvallur-based facility in Tamil Nadu.  The Group has already setup an engine and transmission manufacturing plant at Hosur, Tamil Nadu.

Citroen will also bring plug-in-hybrid and electric versions of all its models based on PSA’s EMP2 and CMP platform respectively. Talking about the Citroen C5 Aircross, the premium SUV will face challenge from cars like Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson and Tata Harrier. It’s likely to come with all the goodies offered on the global-spec model.

The Citroen C3 Aircross could be the second model from the French carmaker in India. Globally, the premium SUV is offered with two powertrains – 129bhp, 12L turbo petrol and 118bhp, 1.6L diesel – with a 6-speed manual and automatic transmission options. In India, it will be positioned against the Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks and Renault Duster.
