The European automaker, Citroen is all set to enter the mass market segment of India with an all-new C3 subcompact hatchback. The company aims to make India as a base for exporting cars to Africa, Middle East and ASEAN markets. Adding to it, Citroen aims to launch an all-new electric car in the Indian market in 2023.
A new media report claims that Stellantis expects one-fourth to one-third of its total output in India to go towards international markets. This will ensure higher utilisaton of the production facilities.
Citroen will launch the much-awaited C3 hatchback in the country by July 2022. The new model comes with crossover-like styling, featuring raised bonnet, high ground clearance and elevated seating position. In fact, Citroen dealers have unofficially started accepting pre-orders for the small car.
The report further claims that Citroen will introduce a new electric car in the country in 2023. It is likely to be the electric version of the Citroen C3. The new models will be based on the heavily localised CMP platform, which is compatible to accommodate different body styles and powertrains.
After introducing the electric car, Citroen will launch a new SUV and an all-new MPV in the country. These models will be launched by 2025. The company is expecting a combined volume of just 1 lakh cars by 2025. The new SUV and MPV are also expected to utilise the CMP platform; however, it will be modified to accommodate a longer wheelbase model.
Previous media reports claim that Citroen will introduce a new mid-sized SUV, codenamed CC24 in the country. It will be positioned against the likes of the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos. The SUV was planned to be introduced in 2023; however, launch could be delayed due to COVID-19 pandemic.
Citroen is also testing the Berlingo MPV in the country. The nw model is offered in two sizes – Standard (4400mm) and XL (4750mm). The company could launch an all-new MPV with inspiration from the Berlingo. Moreover, few media reports suggest that Citroen is also considering an electric MPV or crossover for the Indian market.
