Citroen C3 Could Be India’s 1st SUV With Flex-Fuel Engine – Nexon Rival

The French automaker is reported to unveil its all-new Citroen C3 (codenamed CC21) sub-4 metre SUV on 16th September 2021. While there is no official word on its launch timeline, it’s rumoured to arrive by April 2022. We have already got our hands on images of its promotional scale model revealing its design details. The carmaker’s Thiruvallur based plant near Chennai and Porto Real facility in Brazil will serve as production hub for the new Citroen compact SUV. In India, it will be positioned against the Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and other subcompact SUVs.

Reports suggest that the upcoming Citroen C3 could be India’s first SUV to come with the flex-fuel engine. It’s likely to feature a 1.6L naturally aspirated engine along with ethanol-based fuel. For people not in the know, the flexible fuel vehicles (FFVs) have an ICE (internal combustion engine) unit that’s compatible to work on gasoline and any blend of gasoline and ethanol up to 83 percent. Engine components such as ECM (engine control module), fuel injection system and fuel pump have been calibrated to make it work.

The flex fuel powertrains are cleaner than the gasoline motors. In fact, some of them return more horsepower and torque. The new Citroen compact SUV might also be offered with a 1.2L turbocharged engine paired with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a DCT automatic transmission. The turbo unit will deliver power close to 1188bhp. Read – Citroen To Launch Hyundai i20 Rival In India

It will be designed under the brand’s C-Cubed programme that serves to vehicle built for emerging markets including South America, India, Brazil and more. The compact SUV will underpin the new CMP (Common Modular Platform) that’s already in use by several Peugeot models overseas.
