Citroen has planned a new SUV for the Indian market that’s reported to coming our way towards the end of this year. The model, which will come under the brand’s C-Cubed Program, will be based on the C3 hatchback. While its official name is yet to be announced, it’s rumoured to be called Citroen C3 Aircross. It could be offered with two seating configurations – 5 and 7-seats. Here, its 5-seater version will be positioned against the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Toyota Hyryder and Kia Setlos. In terms of pricing, the new Citroen 7-seater SUV will take on the Kia Carens and Maruti XL6.
The 5-seater Citroen SUV will measure around 4.3 metres in length, thus making it as big as Hyundai Creta. Upfront, its likely to feature the brand’s signature grille, pronounced fenders and headlights with split setup and LED DRLs. Most of its design elements will be similar to the C3 hatch including the flared wheel arches and rectangular taillamps.
Interior will also share a strong resemblance with the C3 hatchback. Though, the new Citroen C3 Aircross might get a newly-designed dashboard and a bunch of new features. We expect it to come with a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system supporting wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, a digital instrument console, 4-speakers, remote locking, steering mounted controls, speed sensitive auto door lock, roof rails, front power windows with one touch down for driver, AC unit and dual airbags. Under the hood, the new Citroen C3 is likely to feature the 1.2L turbo, 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine making a top power of 110bhp and 190Nm of torque. The SUV’s 7-seater version might use the same engine, but deliver some extra power. Transmission choices will include a 6-speed manual and an automatic unit. The latter could be reserved for the higher variants.
