Citroen C21 SUV (Hyundai Venue Rival) Launch Confirmed in 2021

Groupe PSA, the French automaker has announced to launch the C5 Aircross 5-seater premium SUV in the first quarter of 2021. The Citroen’s first made-in-India model will be launched in India in 2021. The company’s first model under C-Cubed programme will be the compact SUV, codenamed Citroen C21.

In a press release, Groupe PSA confirmed to maintain the project timeline and investment for the C-Cubed program, under which the first vehicle designed, developed and made in India would be launched in 2021 as announced in 2019 by Carlos Tavares, chairman of the managing board, Groupe PSA.

The company will first launch the Citroen C21 compact SUV in 2021, which will be followed by a hatchback in 2022. This premium hatchback will rival the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20 and the Tata Atroz. Citroen is also readying an all-new sedan for the Indian market. All these made-in-India will be developed on the new Common Modular Platform (CMP), which is developed for developing markets.

The CMP platform is developed for low-cost models, which also underpins a wide range of cars from Peugeot. This platform is already introduced in Latin American markets. The Citroen C21 compact SUV is likely to feature design highlights from the C3 available in the international markets.

The Citroen C21 compact SUV is expected to be offered with multiple engine options including a 1.2-litre, naturally aspirated petrol engine, a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol and a 130bhp, 1.5-litre diesel. A 6-speed manual gearbox will drive the power to the front wheels will come as standard, while an AT gearbox will join the line-up on a later stage. The company is aiming to achieve high level of localisation. It will directly rival the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Maruti Vitara Brezza and the upcoming Kia Sonet.
