Citroen Berlingo MPV, which has been caught testing multiple times, could be the third model from the French automaker in the country. While there is no official word on its India launch timeline, the company is testing the vehicle for almost a year now. The automaker is currently selling Citroen C5 Aircross SUV and it will soon enter into the sub-4 meter segment with the Citroen C3. The latter will be positioned as a premium hatchback and it will take on multiple cars right from Hyundai i20 to Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite and the upcoming Tata Punch.
Globally, the Citroen Berlingo is offered in two different sizes – Standard (4400mm long) and XL (4750mm long). The Berlingo XL comes with 7-seats layout featuring bench type seats for the middle and third row. The MPV underpins a new platform that’s essentially the combination of PSA’s new EMP2 architecture and the model’s old platform.
It would quite early to comment on its engine options. Though, the test mule was powered by a 1.5L petrol engine paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox. In global markets, the MPV is made available with both petrol and diesel engines. While the petrol model uses a 108bhp, 1.2L, 3-cylinder turbo unit, the diesel version comes with a 1.5L motor delivering 101bhp and 128bhp.
The Citroen Berlingo MPV carries the boxy stance with the signature front grille and split headlamps. The recently spotted test mule was painted in White shade and features white inserts around the fog lamp housing, wide airdam, black cladding on the front and rear bumpers, the signature side cladding and steel wheels.
If launched in India, the Berlingo MPV will take on the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Mahindra Marazzo. Its top-end variants could be placed against the Toyota Innova Crysta. Official launch and other details on the new Citroen MPV are likely to be revealed in near future. Stay tuned to IndiaCarNews.
