Citroen has recently launched the locally developed C3 hatchback and the facelifted C5 Aircross in the Indian market. The company is also preparing two new models – a new entry-level EV and an all-new 7-seater SUV/Crossover. In fact, testing of the Citroen three-row model has already been commenced in India. The Citroen 7-seater model will target MPV and SUV customers.
The new Citroen 7-seater model has recently been caught testing on the Indian roads. The spotted model was equipped with 16-inch wheels instead of 15-inch wheels offered on the standard C3 model. The new model will have higher ground clearance, which is evident from spy images. It is likely to come with plastic body cladding all-around the body.
The new Citroen 3-row SUV is likely to be based on the Stellantis’ CMP (Common Modular Platform) that underpins the C3 hatchback. The engineers are likely to modify the platform to accommodate a bigger size model. The vehicle looks similar to the standard C3 till the B-pillar. The big change will be made to the side and rear profile. It will have a longer rear overhang and bigger glass area. The new model will measure above 4 meters in length.
The cabin of the SUV will have similarities with the regular C3. The SUV’s dashboard, instrument console, central console including touchscreen infotainment and steering wheel are likely to be sourced from the C3 hatchback. The vehicle is likely to come with more standard features compared to the hatchback sibling. It is expected to be offered in two seating layouts – 6 and and 7-seats with former having captain seats in the second row.
The new 3-row Citroen is likely to share the engine options with the C3 hatchback. The engine options are likely to include a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol with 5MT and a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol with 6MT & 6AT. While the former is good for 82PS at 5,750rpm and a peak torque of 115Nm at 3,750rpm, the turbo unit produces 110PS and 190Nm of torque.
The new Citroen 3-row SUV could be called the C3 Aircross. It will directly rival the likes of the Maruti Ertiga, Suzuki XL6, Kia Carens and the Renault Triber.
