Great Wall Motors might make an official announcement in the second half of 2019.
China’s largest SUV and pickup manufacturer, Great Wall Motors is planning to foray into the Indian automobile market by 2021-22. In fact, the company has already commenced appointing the local automotive business. The carmaker will target the highly competitive passenger vehicle space with its potential products.
MG Motors, the subsidiary of SAIC, has recently announced its plan for the Indian market. Great Wall will follow the suite and is likely to make an official announcement in the second half of 2019.
For people not in the know, the Chinese carmaker already has a Research and Development (R&D) center in Bengaluru. This facility used for software coding for the electric vehicles and artificial intelligence. According to a media report, Great Wall Motors has hired Maruti Suzuki’s Product Planning & Strategy Head, Kaushik Ganguly. However, there is no official word on the same. Named after the Great Wall of China, the Chinese SUV marker headquartered in Baoding, Hebei, China. While the passenger vehicles and trucks are retailed under the Great Wall brand, the SUVs are sold under its subsidiary – Haval. The company unveiled its first-ever electric SUV at the 2010 Guangzhou Auto Show, and announced to sell electric vehicles with a huge investment in China in 2011. In its global lineup, Great Wall has a range of sedans (C50 and C30) and SUVs (H6 and H5E). As mentioned in the beginning, the carmaker retails its SUVs under the Haval badge that includes H2 compact SUV, H6 mid-size SUV, H8 luxury SUV and H9 7-seater SUV.
