After importing Chevrolet Spin MPV and the Camaro for testing and R&D purposes, respectively, GM India has imported two units of the Trailblazer SUV into India for R&D (Research & Development) purposes. It is expected that the new SUV will come as a replacement for the Captiva SUV. Unveiled at the 2012 Delhi Motor Show, the TrailBlazer will rival against the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport. However, the company is yet to announce the launch of this big SUV in India.
The Chevrolet Trailblazer offers comfortable seat for 7 adults in a 2+3+2 layout. Only diesel version of the SUV has been imported in our market. Under the bonnet is the 2.8-litre, 4-cylinder unit that churns out a maximum power output of 180bhp and a peak torque of 470Nm. This engine is paired to a six-speed automatic gearbox, while the lower-spec model also gets a five-speed manual gearbox. Both rear wheel drive and 4-wheel drive variants are available in international markets.
The Chevrolet Trailblazer is currently manufactured in Thailand and Brazil, and is exported to emerging markets including South East Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. The company needs to bring the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) kits and then assembled into India to keep price competitive in the market.
