Unlike the global new-gen model, the India-bound new Chevrolet Beat 2017 underpins the existing platform.
General Motors, the American automaker will launch three new products – New Beat, Beat Activ and Essentia compact sedan – in the country this year. The first product to go on sale will be the new Chevrolet Beat 2017, which has spotted several times during its test rounds on Indian roads. If media reports are to be believed, Chevrolet will launch the new Beat in May 2017. The company will launch its sibling crossover & compact sedan towards the end of this year.
Unlike the global new-gen model, which is based on a new platform, the one coming to India underpins the existing one’s platform. It comes equipped with new grille with chrome accents, pronounced lower lip, re-designed headlamp, fog lamps, pinched bonnet and revised rear bumper. The cabin pictures are yet to be revealed, but it is likely to get a touchscreen infotainment system, Bluetooth audio and telephone controls. Also Read: Chevrolet Beat Active – All You Need To Know
The 2017 Beat will continue to feature the same 1.0-litre, three-cylinder diesel engine. GM might use the downsized version of the 1.4-litre, four-cylinder EcoTech unit to power the petrol version of the car. The company also has an option to retain the same 1.2-litre SMARTECH petrol unit.
GM is yet to announce the launch date of the new Beat, but media reports suggest that the hatchback will go on sale in May 2017. We will update you as soon as General Motors announces anything on it.

The entry-level variant is expected to be priced as low as Rs 4.20 lakh, while the diesel models price might fall in the range of Rs 5 lakh – Rs 6.50 lakh. The current model comes with a price tag ranging from Rs 4.5 lakh – Rs 5.9 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Read: Chevrolet Essentia Compact Sedan – All You Need to Know

|Maximum Power||79bhp @ 6,200rpm|

Mechanically, the new Beat is expected to remain the same. The hatchback will continue to feature the 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder diesel engine that churns out a maximum power output of 57bhp and peak torque of 150Nm. Though, the gasoline version might get a new one – 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder unit – which is likely to be the downsized version of the Spark’s 1.4-litre, 4-cylinder engine. Having said that, the company might also retain the existing 79bhp, 1.2-litre petrol engine. Both the engines will be paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox.
|Petrol Model||14kmpl – 17kmpl|
|Diesel Model||22kmpl – 25kmpl|
The new model is expected to be more fuel efficient than the current model. While the petrol version could return around 17kmpl of mileage, the oil burner is likely to deliver around 25kmpl.
|Seating Capacity||5 Passengers|
|Boot Space||170 litres|
|Fuel Tank capacity||35 litres|
The dimensions of the new Beat might remain unchanged. It measures 3,640mm, 1,595mm and 1,520mm in length, width and height, respectively. The vehicle comes with a wheelbase of 2,375mm, which is more than sufficient to tackle Indian road conditions. The ground clearance of 175mm makes easier to drive it through rugged Indian roads
While the platform might remain unchanged, the new Chevrolet Beat 2017 has gone through some design upgrades. The front fascia has a refreshing appeal, thanks to its new headlamps, revised bumper, new grille with chrome accents, re-designed fog lamps and a pinched bonnet. While the alloy wheels remain unchanged, there are new creases and lines. The rear profile, too, has been revised with new bumper and reflectors. As mentioned above, the new Beat will get a new Orange shade along with existing seven colours – Sandrift Grey, Caviar Black, Cocktail Green, Linen Beige, Summit White, Super Red and Switch Blade Silver.
Unlike the current Beat’s cabin that has single tone colour theme with silver inserts around three-spoke steering wheel and dashboard, the Chevrolet Beat 2017 will have dual tone (beige and black) interior and dashboard. There is a new instrument cluster with chrome accents, fabric beige seats, a new center console design with larger HVAC vents and silver trim and chrome bezel HVAC vents. Major highlight will include a new 7-inch MyLink touchscreen infotainment system that is most likely to be offered only on the top-spec model of the hatchback.
The car might also see material quality improvement. The features that the 2017 Beat is likely to retain are instrument cluster (analog speedometer and digital pod for tachometer) and three-spoke steering wheel with mounted control buttons. The new-gen model will also have enough storage space to offer such as glove-box, cup-holders on centre console, and a utility hole on the centre console. Since there will be no change in vehicle’s dimensions, the third row seat could remain congested for three adults.
